Can I use an American laptop computer in Japan using their Wifi network?

Please don't worry about whether or not your laptop will be compatible; it is. Whether it's a Mac or a Windows system, you'll be able to log into any location with free wi-fi access. Keep in mind that in certain locations (such as hotels and airports), logging in might bring you to a Japanese webpage to give you information about the wi-fi services. In this case (or any time you're online) please remember this kanji: 英語 This is Japanese for "English." You can plug it into your search function (CTRL+F) to find it faster. Many larger websites provide English support. Just click "英語" and you'll be brought to the English version of the website, assuming there is one. Good luck and enjoy yourself! Bonus tip - American electronics will work if you plug them into Japanese outlets, but the reverse isn't always true.

Yes, if your computer is already set up to use wifi then you'll be fine. IF you can find any wifi. It isn't everywhere, and where it is it's usually for a fee not for free.
