Most laptops will likely have two RAM slots because of space 'issues'. You can get 2gb RAM cards from whatever country you are located in and do NOT necicerryly have to order them online from Japan. As for installing the RAM, on that laptop your buying, there should be a little plastic cover underneath with screws on. Simply unscrew and remove that plastic cover and you will have access to the RAM. This procedure should _NOT_ void your warrenty as it is a very common upgrade that can easyly be reversed. EDIT: There may be more than one plastic cover with screws. The one containing the RAM cards will probably have a small micro-chip symbol printed on - otherwise it's just trial and error until you find the right plastic cover. In response to "Lindsay G": You cannot fry a RAM card. If you insert it the wrong way (which is hard to do on most modern laptops anyway) you will hear some bleeps and the computer will not boot. Simply open the plastic cover and insert the RAM the correct way. Done.

A gig is a lot of memory, that's what I have on my laptop. As for installing it, if you have never opened a computer and worked inside it or took any classes on it, I would suggest having someone at a computer store do it for you. Because it is very easy to fry the RAM stick if you don;t know what your doing.

Yes 1 gig ddr ram and 4 gig sd ram, I would think there would be 4 slots for the sd ram. The only question I have is I know they make a 512 sd ram I'm not sure if they make a 1 gig ? and we all know ddr ram is faster than sd ram the question is how much faster ? If you had 1 gig of ddr ram and 4 gig of sd ram witch one is faster ?

This laptop comes with 2 memory slots which are exposed by openning a small panel on the bottom of the laptop. The system comes with 1gig standard, it could be either 2x 512mgs or 1x 1024mg stick(s), usually the assembler uses 1 stick leaving the second slot available of consumer upgrade later. If you wanted to increase the memory to 4gigs you would have to purchase 2x 2048mg sticks of SODIMM PC2-5300 series like these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820146125&ATT=20-146-125&CMP=OTC-pr1c3watch&cm_mmc=OTC-pr1c3watch-_-Memory+(Notebook+Memory)-_-Mushkin-_-20146125 . If you did this you would have to remove and replace the existing memory to reach your system capacity of 4gigs. To install any memory with this laptop, turn your laptop over after removing the a/c power cord and battery pack from the laptop, usually centered on the bottom of the laptop is a small almost square cover secured by a single small phillips head screw, removing this panel should expose your two slots for memory. The memory is inserted at an angle then pressed downwards towards the inside of the case to lock it into place. After you have installed all your memory, replace the cover and secure the locking screw, re-attach the battery pack and power cord if desired. Turn on your laptop and enter the Bios to make sure it recognizes the new memory total installed. If the Bios does recognize the new system total, exit and allow the system to boot normally, you should now be set to go.

Usually they have two slots. Could be both have 512 or one has 1GB and the other is empty. Best place to buy from is New Egg or Frys. Fairly simple procedure, unscrew the bottom flap and clip it in. How about a video? http://reviews.cnet.com/Upgrade_your_laptop_s_RAM/4660-10165_7-6760642.html
Answer 8 :
before buying new ram go to www.crucial.com and they will tell you by online check what type of ram is in yr computer and what type of ram you can substitute it with - you can't buy just any ram - replacing it is easy - just open plastic lid - take old out and new in
