I am visiting Japan for a month, staying in a rented house. How can I get internet access?
I have a laptop computer that I use to send and receive dozens of emails per day, often substantial ones. I do not want to be limited to what I can do on a mobile phone/PDA, although I do have an HTC Touch.

Answer 1 :
1. Leech off a nearby open wireless router - the default configuration for Yahoo! BB leaves it wide open. 2. Find a coffee shop with internet access - someone said Starbucks charges 2,000 yen for a month's worth of access. Here's a useful site that lists where has wireless: http://www.freespot.com/users/map_e.html 3. Visit a net cafe and see if they allow you to bring your own machine. I think all other options require long-term contracts. You might be lucky and find the rented home has broadband, however.
Answer 2 :
I believe some places will give you free internet access at a house. I'm not sure though....
Answer 3 :
You can get free internet access at a lot of places. I would recommend checking coffee shops or cafes -- my friends and I used to hang out in the Starbucks in Yamashina Stn, but I know the one across from Kyoto Stn has free internet too. There are some local cafes and coffee shops with internet as well, if going into a Starbucks turns you off. (I guess some Starbucks charge you to use the internet, but not the ones I've been in around Kyoto.)
Answer 4 :
Just buy a internet connection and when youre going just cancel the plan
