Answer 1 :
No it should work fine
Answer 2 :
Yep, it's all standard.
Answer 3 :
yeah, it will work. You don't need anything special. Just be prepared to default to all the Japanese versions of all the normal websites (google, msn, itunes, etc.)
Answer 4 :
You will have no problem connecting the the WiFi as it's based on the IEEE standard. I've used my laptop in many different countries and have had no issues.
Answer 5 :
You can use a US laptop in any country. You will however be limited to the first 11 channels in Japan however. Setting the time to local might unlock 12-14 but I am not sure of that. You do not need to install anything

go here: http://support.gateway.com/support/drivers/dlcenter.asp
Answer 2 :
You can buy PCI boards that add USB slots. Never looked at the price on them.
Answer 3 :
Your best best bet is to contact the dealer you bought it from. I doubt it if Gateway USA will have drivers for a Japanese laptop. I wonder if an english copy of XP knows what to do with a computer with a Japanese bios? That may be part of you problem

Answer 1 :
IEEE 802.11 draft 2.0 n is an International standard. I would believe it would work anywhere in the world so long as the Wireless access point and the wireless adapter are using the same standard. It is also a backwards compatible standard with 802.11g
