Will an American Laptop Work in Japan

Will an American Laptop Work in Japan?
I recently got one for Christmas and in the spring I will be going to Japan , but I don't know will it work on it. Also the laptop has an internet connection. Thanks. what is a 2 and 3 prong and where can I find it?

Answer 1 :
Most laptops work fine, and will adapt voltage automatically. If it needs a 3-prong power connection, you may want to buy a 3-prong-to-2-prong adapter, since almost all power plugs in Japan are 2-prongs only. Edit: 2 prong and 3 prong means the type of power plug, if there are 2 parts that plug into the wall then it's 2 prongs. You can get an adapter at Radio Shack or a good hardware or electronics store.
Answer 2 :
your laptop will work but idk about your internet connection ..i have a japanese laptop and it works fine in the states
Answer 3 :
Yes, it will work. Like siad before you will need a 3 prong to 2 prong converter. About the internet, if you have a hard connection it will work perfectly. If you're using wireless you will have a few problems. They use a different style of wireless that your card will be able to pick up, but will not get a clear connection and the computer will not realize it's connected. Either way, geting computer software in Japan is as easy as looknig for a fish in an aquarium. You can go to the tech center, or any shopping center will have a yodobashi, or a bik camera.
Answer 4 :
I think that it should; my uncle and aunt both have one that they brought from Texas and it works in Japan.
Answer 5 :
Yes it will work. Wireless internet connection may or may not be as smooth. If you have problems you should be able to get a tech guy to get you on wireless, otherwise you can just hook it up to a cable modem

How would you meet up in Japan without a cell phone

How would you meet up in Japan without a cell phone?
me and my friend Takuma are gonna be in Japan at the same time. I wanted to see him in Japan because he lives 3 hours away from me here in america. The problem is, my cell phone doesnt work in Japan, and I wont have a laptop.. Is there anyway that we would be able to meet up? how?
Japan - 5 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
E-mail him prior to your leaving the states. Agree to meet at the world's largest Hello Kitty at the Hello Kitty store in Shinjuku at a certain time. In all seriousness, does your friend have a cell phone? Believe it or not, they still have plenty of pay phones in Japan. If you're around Korea-town, there's PC bangs (Literally translated as "PC room" is a Korean business where you can go and pay to use a computer) available. And yes, they do have them in Japan, I just came back a week ago from there. Hope this helps. Have fun!! Good luck and hope you get to meet up with your friend!!
Answer 2 :
Sorry have no idea, can not help
Answer 3 :
they have many public phones, they are usually green color. But Its annoying to depend on public phones, but you have no other choice. I heard you can buy a rental phone at airports, but those things are very expensive than normal phones for talking each minute, and you have to pay like 10 dollars a day or 1 dollar per minute or something like that, I dont know to sure because I just use softbank and get free calls for 20 hours each day from 1 am to 9 pm,to other softbanks cool huh? and I have white plan and basic price is only 950 yen PER MONTH LOL and text message is just 1 yen, cool huh? \ anyways to answer your question , on the contrary you are quite f*cked because anyone without a proper long term visa in japan cannot aquire a phoneHAHAHAHHAA. Good luck sweety
Answer 4 :
I think you must stay at a hotel or so. So he can call your hotel or he can call yours. People used to live without cell phone or computer and meet in 20th century.
Answer 5 :
Rent a phone at Narita Airport. 200 yen per day ($2). Limit the amount of time you talk and you'll be fine

How much are electronics in Japan

How much are electronics in Japan?
How much are TV's, iPods, Laptops and other electronics in Japan? I know how much they are in American, but a friend of mine is going there in a few weeks and he wanted to know. Thanks. Um, I can't read or find out the prices in Japanese =/ Nvm, I got it. Not that big of a difference. =/ Hmm. Thought they may be dirt cheap.
Japan - 3 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Below are the cheapest price on the Net, so keep in mind actual price in real-stores are usually higher than these. How much higher is depends on where you visits. All links are in Japanese, but you can make out the prices. TV's http://kakaku.com/kaden/crt-tv/ iPods http://kakaku.com/pc/mp3-player/ma_9/ Laptops http://kakaku.com/pc/note-pc/ Blue-Ray recorders http://kakaku.com/kaden/dvd-recorder/article/m_2027_003.html Audio systems http://kakaku.com/kaden/mini-system/
Answer 2 :
For the most part, things will be higher. And much of it will be made in China anyway. Exceptions will be things like upper end cameras like DSLRs. Bear in mind store costs are also much higher in Japan and those costs have to be added on. I asked a friend about a 35mm camera I was interested in. The price was within a few dollars of what it was here. Nothing is dirt cheap in Japan.
Answer 3 :
travis, tell your friend that it's not worth getting electronics in Japan these days. I've purchased electronics in my travels to Tokyo in the past but I am finding that most items can now be purchased via Internet at lower or comparable prices. I would only but new gadgets if they will not be in the US in a year or two or not available in US market. P.S. Also, let your friend know that most elec. gadgets only have Japanese instruction, so support on the gadgets will be limited to none when you have issues after you come back to US

What laptop should I buy in the UK to take with me to Japan?
The question says it all really - I am laptop stupid (been PC for over a decade) what should I buy to take with me to Japan - needed for watching dvds, listening to music, downloading a bit of TV, trasfering photos/video from camera to disc and internet. I have around £400 - If needs must £ wise happy to buy extra portable memory/storage and maybe a external re-writer once in Japan but want to get the computer here (prefer windows XP and want to make sure I have software so the system can recognise Japanese characters.) Can a smart tech person help out a silly not very tech person having to go to somewhere like PCWorld to ask for help :-(

Talk to a salesman and make sure your new laptop power supply will support 110, 60 cycles.. Most modern laptops have a power supply that will run 110, 60 cycles or 220, 50 cycles. The only requirement will be to purchase a plug adapter, which is really inexpensive.
Answer 2 :
if you're thinking of buying a laptop you should check out this site first. they give you a sony vaio laptop for FREE! all you need to do is complete a few quick tasks for them

Is the contract of 12 month Skype credit bought from Japan valid in other countries?
Now I'm in Japan and going to buy 12 month Skype credit. It's 793.50 Japanese Yen including VAT. Can I use Skype with the same conditions if I move out to somewhere in Europe or USA? And Can I use Skype with the same conditions anywhere out of Japan if I bring my laptop with me?

I haven't been in your personal situation, but I've traveled throughout Europe and the U.S. with the same account/payment/credits, without ever having the slightest of problems. From my experience (as a user and as a programmer), I *think* you should be fine. I would check the Skype website to make sure though, they have an extensive policy

My friend is visiting from Japan and is bringing his laptop. How can he use the laptop here

My friend is visiting from Japan and is bringing his laptop. How can he use the laptop here?
Does it matter which brand he is bringing? He needs it for work. He'going to be traveling around the country so he would need access anywhere. Is there a special attachment he needs? How about using a cell phone? Could there be a connection through that?
Laptops & Notebooks - 4 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Japan uses the standard outlet. As far as the phone goes, though, well, maybe a prepaid is the only way.
Answer 2 :
It does not matter where he comes from and where he goes.... the laptop has an adapter and it will automatically adapt to the power differences. (it's only the physical plug difference could be an issue). The dial-in is not an issue at all (mobile, fast Ethernet, wireless, broadband, etc...) you just need to configure the system to the new connection (normally 15 min. if you have all the information). The only existing issue..... is the language on the laptop ;- ) Which means he has to configure it himself.
Answer 3 :
it doesn't matter, a laptop has a universal adaptor (120-220V) His cellphone couldn't be used for Japan uses a different network (4G? haha)
Answer 4 :
It doesnt matter now laptops work all over the world via wifi

Is It Safe to Buy Products Made in Japan After Nuclear Disaster

Is It Safe to Buy Products Made in Japan After Nuclear Disaster?
I was going to buy a laptop, and some of the parts could have been made in Japan. I was worried about possible radiation contamination after the disaster they had there back in March. I don't know if I'm overreacting, and I don't even know if nuclear radiation could be carried via a laptop shipped from Japan to the US, but I'm worried about it. Should I be concerned? Thanks
Other - News & Events - 8 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
/facepalm
Answer 2 :
Yes it is safe The US government would not allow radiation contaminated products to enter the US because that would pose a danger to its citizens. You have nothing to worry about.
Answer 3 :
I suggest. Not. People in Japan are buying food from America now... but you wont die.
Answer 4 :
have a check, then you decide what yo buy.
Answer 5 :
Have some guts. I do.
Answer 6 :
not right now - go ahead and buy now while you can though - belive me - they arent letting anything in or out right now until inspected - even before any ships leave port which in some places that were near the zone are not going anyware - you arent over reacting at all - go ahead and buy what you want before they are able to lift the bans on trading for usa - as far as i know usa isant taking anything until stuff checked first - thats why there is already a problem with spare auto parts now - they cant ship until ok to do so -
Answer 7 :
I think it is just as safe today to buy products made in Japan as it was after two atom bombs were exploded onto Japan during WWII.
Answer 8 :
Yes, it's safe. You're confusing the disaster, which was the non-nuclear tsunami which followed the non-nuclear earthquake that killed over 10,000 people with the power plant problem which has harmed no one and isn't expected to either. Calling the power plant problem a disaster is like calling an ingrown toenail a life-threating situation. You will get more radiation from your cellphone or microwave oven than you ever will from Japan or anything made in Japan. The containment vessels did not rupture like they did in Chernobyl so the only radiation leaked was from the cooling water. Most of the radiation (about 80%) was iodine-131 which has a half life of about eight days so it quickly breaks down into non-radioactive substances (Hint: it will be more than two weeks before any parts reach you.). In addition, the area affected is very small. The no-entry zone was reduced from 10 km to 8km (six miles to five miles) and the precautionary evacuation zone is 30 km (16 miles). Japan is about the size of California so this is only a tiny portion of the country. If anything, the situation shows how safe nuclear power is. Consider that forty year old plants were hit with an earthquake five times the strength they were designed for and yet they still shut down safely. The generators came on like they were supposed to when grid power was cut. Then the tsunami hit and the generators were wiped out. However, the battery backup still worked for the designed eight hours. The problem happened when no new generators could be put in. Even so the problems have been minimal--media scare mongering for ratings not withstanding. Here is an informative article describing the situation: http://bravenewclimate.com/2011/03/13/fukushima-simple-explanation/ And here is where you find current, factual status information: http://www.iaea.org/newscenter/news/tsunamiupdate01.html Historical status: http://www.iaea.org/newscenter/news/2011/fukushimafull.html And a slide presentation that describes the effects: http://www.slideshare.net/iaea/radiological-monitoring-and-consequences-of-fukushima-nuclear-accident-2-june-2011 And here is a chart that helps make sense of the numbers: http://www.xkcd.com/radiation/

If I buy a Japan-version PS3, will I need to use a transformer in order to use the game console in the US

If I buy a Japan-version PS3, will I need to use a transformer in order to use the game console in the US?
I am thinking about buying a ceramic white PS3, but it is available only in Japan. I wonder if the adaptor on PS3 is 100-240V, i.e. if it can be used anywhere in the world without using a transformer (just like laptops). Answers from US owners of Japan-version PS3 or knowledgeable persons are preferred, but all answers will be appreciated. Thank you very much.
PlayStation - 8 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
all ps3s are region-lock free.....
Answer 2 :
I was thinking of getting the Japan version because my cousin has it and says it is great. The only thing that is locked is the ability to play american DVD's on it. You can play any Blu-ray which is basically all you need unless you want to watch american dvd'S
Answer 3 :
You will need to get a North American PS3 power cord. Or you can get a travel adapter and use that, though the North American PS3 cord is probably safer to use because it was designed for the PlayStation 3 and the North American regional power outlets.
Answer 4 :
no
Answer 5 :
no all games will work on a japanese ps3 but i dont think u can play us movies though
Answer 6 :
no. U don't have to.
Answer 7 :
to answer your question properly, unlike the rest of the responses you will need an adapter to plug into the wall. for the plug ends are diffrent than those we use here in the good old us.
Answer 8 :
If you buy a Japanese PS3, you will need to use a Japanese to US travel adaptor to power the console. If you also get it, you will have to buy Japanese DVD's, PS1 and PS2 games. You will be able to play all PS3 games from all over the world and since Blu-Ray movies from Japan share the same region as the US, Blu-Ray movies would also work

What should I bring with me to Japan

What should I bring with me to Japan?
I am from the United States and I will study abroad at at a university in Japan for one academic school year (Sept.2009-July 2010). I am just wondering what all I should bring with me because I have to keep in mind I don't wanna bring too much considering I will be taking things home with me. Also, will my laptop work in Japan considering the differences in voltages and such? Thank you very much for your time and consideration.
Japan - 7 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
I think that you should bring everything you need. Such As: Clothes AMERICAN FOOD if its lasts..... phone, computer I think that would be it. Have fun!
Answer 2 :
As for the previous answer... Clothes: I don't know your size, but Japanese sizes are a bit on the small side, especially shoes. American food: Why? Japanese food is much better than American food and a hundred times better for you. Phone: Again, why? An American phone won't work in Japan. Computer: Probably a good idea. Japanese keyboards are different and it may take a bit of getting used to. In addition to those things: Make sure you can use your bank card in Japan before you go. It is becoming easier recently to use foreign bank cards in Japan, but it still can be a bit difficult. Gifts: I don't know where you will be staying, but it is customary to take gifts from your hometown for your hosts. All the other necessities like insurance, etc. Have a good time.
Answer 3 :
many monies
Answer 4 :
I would start practicing japanese if u don't no it and i would practice a lot. Petz maybe money dvd's american thingz to bring to japanese friends tv bank card cloths bug spray coats it gets cold in japan textbooks in english
Answer 5 :
feminine hygiene products that is if you're female. condoms if you're male.
Answer 6 :
You will have a great time. Yes your computer will work, but make sure to get an adaptor. Bring any items (medicine/toiletries/stuff) you have a particular liking for. Japan has many things, but not near the variety the US has. Bring Neosporin, Japan does not have it. Bring many little gifts of USA/your city like: post cards, pens/pencils, magnets, little gifts. You will make many friends and just a nice way to show friendship. Also, NEVER GO TO SOMEONE'S HOUSE EMPTIHANDED. When you go to Japan, look for the 100 Yen shop (like a dollar store) and buy what you can there to save money. Bookoff is a good bookstore/videostore. Make sure you budget enough money for a cell phone, you will need one to stay in the loop with friends! A good way to be cost conscious and be social is to eat out (I know that is counter-intuitive), but many cheap good restaurants with "teishoku." Also the convenience stores are great, they have everything, can even pay bills there! Bring two credit cards/debit cards in case one gets lost! Join a club at the university to make more friends. Have fun
Answer 7 :
Any pills you usually take; of course there are tons of medicines but none of them may work for you. In many cases, Japanese pills are too weak for Americans. Cloths; Japanese wear differently so you may wanna get some there. But still they are expensive and really tiny. Food; although you will find a lot of food familiar (such as McDonald, KitKat, Pringles and etc), you may wanna bring macaroni n cheese and pop tarts. Other than that, I guess you can find anything you want there...but assuming it takes a while for you to get used to the life, you may wanna bring a little bit of everything that you are using now in the states

In Japan, they use Yen (I think) Which is more than US dollars.
Answer 2 :
I guess so....... Anyway, check and compare the price rates on the internet. I also have that impression because the Japanese are great in electronic stuff ;) When you get there, try to look around... Still usable TVs and other electrical/electronic equipment are thrown away because it is so easy and cheap to purchase new stuff..... Have a great time in Japan........
Answer 3 :
Take a look at this http://tinyurl.com/y7jgsh Talk about cheaper and more convenient .

Don't buy in Japan. Most models are in Japanese version of Windows. If you are expat in Japan, you can order BTO (built to orer) model of the HP, Toshiba, Lenovo, DELL in English WIndows, etc. Yes it is little cheaper than US. (just a bit though)

would installing a game to my laptops hard drive give it longer battery life over one running from cd

would installing a game to my laptops hard drive give it longer battery life over one running from cd?
going to Japan and I know my laptop battery wont last the trip but which will allow the battery to last longer? running a game from the hard drive of the laptop or running a game from a cd in the cd drive of the laptop? does the same apply to movies? would shutting off the wifi capabilities of the laptop while in flight extend battery life? i know for my phone it says that turning off wifi can extend battery life. i know screen brightness and temperature has to do with battery life.
Laptops & Notebooks - 4 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
All things contribute to longer battery life (mostly brightness and processing power ussage). So the less processes you have the less batery power you should use. Not sure about the cd but you can give it a shot though i doubt that it would give you a lot more battery power (maybe a couple of minutes)
Answer 2 :
Yes running from hardrive will consume less power than from cd. yes same applies to movies, yes turning off wifi will extend battery life. How much it will extend your battery life may only be maginal but there will be power savings.
Answer 3 :
running a game from the hard drive of the laptop!same to the movies!
Answer 4 :
I really will not matter much, except that your hard drive is faster at running data than a CD. Either ways the information has to go to RAM and be stored on the Hard Drive, so I do not see any significant reason why playing a game or running any sort of heavy process would consume less memory on a CD than a Hard Drive. It is possible to argue that since the Hard Drive runs faster than a CD, you will get more out of your battery life through it than with a CD, but other than that I really am not sure of what difference there could really be. I could be wrong, but I hope this helps

Do I need an electrical plug adaptor for my American laptop in Japan

Do I need an electrical plug adaptor for my American laptop in Japan?
I think the plugs are different. If so, where in Tokyo or at the airport should I buy a plug adaptor??
Japan - 5 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
yes you can get them at the air port or before you leave you can get one at walmart
Answer 2 :
Yes!! Not only is the plug different the volts and amps are as well. Try a major eletronics store they should have it!!
Answer 3 :
No you do not need an adaptor. Most laptops accept 100 - 240 volts. The plug shape is the same as in the USA, so no adaptor needed.
Answer 4 :
Based on the attached international plug chart, it appears that Japan uses the same plug configuration as the US, and a slightly different voltage (100V 50Hz). Most laptops have a full 100-240V voltage input range, so you probably don't need anything. Look on your laptop plug transformer to be sure.
Answer 5 :
You can buy plug adapters in places like Best Buy. They shouldn't be that expensive. Look for one with two straight, even prongs, and check the packaging to make sure it lists Japan as a place where you can use the adapter

What laptop brands are popular in Japan

What laptop brands are popular in Japan?
What laptop brands are most popular in Japan? I'm considering these factors: reliable qualities, sophisticated design and reasonable prices. 1. 優秀な品質 2. 素敵なデザイン 3. まじめな価格 What laptop brands are most popular among customers? Which one is best to buy in Japan? Sony, Toshiba, Fujitsu, Mac, HP, Compaq. LG. Samsung or some other brands?
Japan - 3 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Popular in Japan are: Toshiba (Dynabook) Fujitsu (Biblo) Hitachi (Prius) Sony (Vaio) other popular firms are NEC,Dell,HP,Lenovo (IBM), some Acer,Asus,Panasonic,Onkyo and Sharp I don't see Samsung often and haven't seen any LG in Japan Panasonic and Sharp laptops are surpassing quality in my opinion.
Answer 2 :
What is your question? Which are the popular brand? OR Which is the best for YOUR needs? In general, Japanese brands are popular, and you hardly can buy anything from the US or Korea. The price ranges are about the same for all brands. Mac is another story. You have to choose, if you want windows or mac, it makes no sense to compare them this way.
Answer 3 :
Are you comfortable using Japanese Windows? All the time, for every error message that pops up? If not, get a Mac. The internationalization in OS X is light years ahead of Windows. Any mac can be turned from Japanese to English very simply, but doing the same with Windows involves re-installing your OS. As for Windows laptops, buy one in the country where you will be living, either the US or Japan, because things like warranties will be better that way. Sony Vaio seem pretty nice, popular and stylish. If I wasn't using a mac, I'd probably get one of those

What do you need to use a laptop in Japan? (converter, adapter, what?)

What do you need to use a laptop in Japan? (converter, adapter, what?)?
I'm bringing my laptop to Japan, and I need to know what I need to be able to plug it in. Anyone know? Thank you!
Japan - 5 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
Most laptops come with 100-240 AC adapters which is ok to be plugged into any Japanese power points - Just that you need to have an interchangeable adapter to be able to plug into their socket.
Answer 2 :
Japan's outlets are 100 volts. Check the AC/DC adapter on your power cord (the power pack lookin thing) to see if it falls in that range. Any laptop made in the last 5 years should be 100-240 volts so it should be ok. I'm using a Dell Inspiron 6000 in Japan right now and it works just fine. If you're from the U.S., you don't need an outlet adapter as the outlets are exactly the same. If your power cord has three prongs, you may need to get an adapter for the third (round) prong because many outlets in Japan are only two prongs. But you can find that at any electronics store in Japan or your home country.
Answer 3 :
You don't tell us where you're coming from. From the US you shouldn't need anything. From other countries you might need an adapter plug, or possibly a transformer if your computer doesn't have universal voltage.
Answer 4 :
But remember, there are no free WiFi network in Japan. Ppl don't even know the name WiFi (Ppl call it as wireless network)

Military pay must be at an all time low.
Answer 2 :
no. why should they get free laptops? thats a want, not a necessity. mast...- oh sure, i guess thats why they invented pen and paper.
Answer 3 :
Clash City you would want to talk to your Family and have some kind of access to the outside world if you were overseas too. Depending on what Branch he's in, I guess.. I know for sure that Army gives us Laptops or computers. ---------- I guess it's something that has to be experienced to be understood..
Answer 4 :
Did you mean a free lapdance?
Answer 5 :
there are plenty of Internet cafes in Japan where your relative can use a computer..
Answer 6 :
first of all. not that i know of. i never thought to ask when i was over there. if you want to help them out, ( and military pay was never nearly as high as it should be, and i was in before all these enlistment/re-enlistment bonuses ) buy them a laptop and send it to them or send them some cash and they can pick one up at the PX
Answer 7 :
I honestly don't know and I did look for some info. for you. I do know that Omaha Steaks sends a little packet with your order to turn in extra cell phones that are given free to soldiers in Iraq. That is the best I can do for you, sorry

I am going to Japan this summer and I have been looking for a laptop, so I wondered if I could buy a laptop there and use it in America. I was also wondering if games like Sims 3 would work on a laptop from Japan. I would really appreciate any help! :)

As long as you buy a PC clone with an all-voltage adapter, no problem with software and voltage/frequency of power (something you oddly didn't ask about). For example, Toshiba makes many such laptops

are things sold in japan made in china like here in the US

are things sold in japan made in china like here in the US?
out of all the computer manufactureres I know, only fujitsu still makes their laptops in japan. And I know that here in the US, the wii is made in china. So I am wondering, are the products sold in japan by japanese companies, also made in china like here in the US. I really hate the chinese built quality.
Japan - 3 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
There are components in a Fujitsu laptop that are made outside Japan even if final assembly takes place in Japan. Quality is a matter of quality assurance, not the physical location of the plant. Honda's Ohio plant is consisently their #1 plant in the world in terms of QA. The consumer electronics sold in Japan by Japanese companies are manufactured in the same places consumer electronics outside Japan are. Generic components like "2.5 hard drives or AT motherboards are just not manufactured in Japan anymore.
Answer 2 :
Yes, many of the products sold in Japan are imported from China just like the U.S. Like the U.S. you can usually find out where it came from by looking at the label. Sadly it is simple economics. Things are cheaper when made in China and people want to pay less.
Answer 3 :
Yes, they import the same junk we do. It's all a matter of money. No Japanese is going to work for what amounts to a dollar a day

Is it good if i buy a laptop in Japan to use in Cambodia

Is it good if i buy a laptop in Japan to use in Cambodia?
Now, i'm in Japan so i want to buy a laptop to use in Cambodia when i come back but i don't know that i should or not.
Other - Asia Pacific - 4 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
NO, assuming you are not Japanese... There are several reasons why you don't want to buy a laptop in Japan. First, the price is very high and take into account the current exchange rate (yen 93 to 1 US $), it'll cost you even more. Second, to switch the operating system from Japanese to English will cost you about 200-300 US $. Third, The keyboard will have the same basic layout but some keys are different as well as the keyboard having Japanese on the keys. Buy your laptop in your home country and take it with you. II was in Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam in January and it can be rough travelling so I would recommend a netbook like the Asus 1000HE ($385). You don't want to be carrying a big bulky laptop which costs a lot. Now, assuming you are Japanese (Based on your name), then YES, buy a computer in Japan. You can get a netbook for just 1 yen at any big electronics store like Yodobashi, Bic Camera, Best Denki etc. If you get a netbook for 1 yen you will have to sign up for (usually) a 2 year internet plan. What's good about the internet plan is that you get an adapter that plugs into your USB port and you can access the internet using the cellular phone network, anywhere and anytime (in Japan). Good luck
Answer 2 :
up to you but... I used to carry my laptop with me when I traveled. It's just a hassle that you don't really need. There are internet cafes every where in cambodia and most hotels provide free internet services as well. So why carry a brick around that can be stolen or damaged. You are going on vacation, I assume, Leave the BS behind and have a good time. You can always keep in touch but have the choice of being out of reach when the laptop is not with you 24/7
Answer 3 :
no, you will have problems with CD drivers or even the ventilation fans, as in Japan the Frequency of electric power is 60 Hertz and in Cambodia 50 Hertz. see you in Cambodia !
Answer 4 :
Yes, it is very good

Are laptops in Japan available with English keyboards and windows

Are laptops in Japan available with English keyboards and windows...etc?
OK so I want to buy a Toshiba laptop. like a Satellite L675-S7048 (It is the 17.3" monitor model with i3 processor) USA Price is USD$699.99 or about NZD$945 I am in New Zealand where the same laptop sells for NZD$1450 or USD$1075 (Side note New Zealand has no import duties on electrical goods, so my best guess is it is a size of the market issue) So back to my question, my brother is going to Japan and I was wondering are the prices in Japan similar to those in USA or cheaper. because it is made there? Also would it be available there with an English keyboard? Please let me know any info if you know first hand.

Trading old laptops in Japan

Trading old laptops in Japan?
I've been living in Japan for 2 months now, and I bought a laptop when I got here that I thought was okay. I want to play graphics-intensive games and unfortunately I didn't realize this laptop had an integrated graphics card when i bought it, as I was desperate for something at the time. I have obviously encountered problems opening lots and lots of games, and I'm wondering if there's any trading system set up in Japan where you can trade in an old Laptop to get a new Laptop a bit cheaper. There is nothing actually -wrong- with this laptop, except it isn't what I wanted and because of the language barrier I couldn't properly explain what I wanted. Any info would be greatly appreciated, or if anyone knows any other way I could possibly get a better laptop without just buying a new one and owning two. Thanks in advance!

hmm, dunno. but most electronic devices are made in asian countires
Answer 2 :
Vaio is a Japanese company.
Answer 3 :
I dont know where theyre generally made, but mine says "Made in China".
Answer 4 :
Sony is a Japanese company. Certain components in their systems may be made in China, Korea or other Asian countries., but the main assembly takes place in Japan.
Answer 5 :
Sony build factories in many countries - China and USA are the main options I found for Playstation 2 a few years back. People here believe that the US version was better, but I got lumbered with the chinese one, for 20% less. It only lasted me four years until I sold it :P I'm totally confident that they wouldn't be stupid enough to ship the parts all the way to Japan and then build them and ship them all the way back.... it's cheaper to send a few Japanese bosses to manage the local workers. Where it's made doesn't count for much, it's the cost cutting affecting the quality control you need to worry about. Seagate make hard disks in Thailand - and they're excellent

Do laptops bought in Japan work in the US

Do laptops bought in Japan work in the US?
I'm going to Japan soon. I was wondering if I decide to buy a laptop there, whether or not it will work here. And I mean will it work with our electric current since it's different in Japan. Or do I have to justbuy one and some special adapter thing? Thanks in advance!

Answer 1 :
most laptop computers come with auto sensing ac adpaters, but you are right, the outlet cord may be different. check with the manufacturer to make sure you can get one for the US and one for Japan. Also make sure that settings such as language, currency, dictionairies, and dvd playback settings are set up for US market, especially the dvd settings. They can cause the DVD to be worthless, if not set correctly. Also look at the exchange rate, it may be cheaper to buy the laptop here than in Japan. even though a buck buys 1.18 in japan, there may be special taxes and duties that you will have to pay when you bring into this country
Answer 2 :
yep... so ur very luky i want to go to japan lol srry good luck!
Answer 3 :
Most OS is Japanese OS. And keyboard layout is for Japanese method. Don't worry about adopter. It is usually 100-240V. Wireless standard is also same. If you are going to buy Winows Vista, buy Ultimate edition. Ultimate can switch the Japanese menu to English

Does anyone know of any superior laptops in Japan?
I'm going to Japan in a couple of weeks and I wanted a new laptop for my trip, but I figure the laptops there are MUCH better. Where would I check (website) to see what laptops are already out over there? And does anyone know any other cool electronics that are out over there that won't be out here in the states? So you're all saying that Macbooks are far superior than the laptops in japan? I might as well just stay here and buy a laptop
Laptops & Notebooks - 3 Answers
People's Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
Answer 1 :
They have alot of great laptops but most can be bought in the States (maybe for a little more money...). But yeah. Get a Mac. The PowerBook is great. Macs are usually better than Windows and Dells, but of course, more expensive. There's also a super thin on...MacBook Air.
Answer 2 :
I'd say MacBook! World wide warranty, which means that if your laptop breaks during the flight, your guaranteed free repair in japan. It's easy, safe and awesome. (Use student rebates, even if you're not a student) Dell is good, the cheapest is good. Although, I'm not sure on the battery life. Dell sucks at warranty.
Answer 3 :
Apples are far superior than anything currently out on the market. The reason is because of it's superior operating system that outfeatures Linux and outperforms Windows 10 to 1

I am going to Japan, yokohama and Tokyo with my school for about two weeks and i want to buy a laptop because i heard its cheaper there but i am not exactly sure and how much trouble is it to change the language settings and all that. Is it worth all the hassle, will i really save a lot of money? And where can i go to get my laptop fixed. and which city is the better place to purchase the laptop
Laptops & Notebooks - 4 Answers

Answer 1 :
They may be cheaper, but you get what you pay for.....
Answer 2 :
the difference in price isn't that different in most places. But... you can get some great deals in ikiabara (electric town). It woulden't be too difficult to change the language settings but you would run into trouble with different software codes etc.
Answer 3 :
Don't forget to consider that the power cord plugins might be different and you would have to use an adapter in the States.
Answer 4 :
Not really...I bought a Laptop in Japan before coming to America with my husband, and it was quite expensive for an "ok" computer...I was very much surprised by the prices in America! They are much cheaper here! if you were to try to buy an HP or a Sony over in Japan, the would be almost 2000 American dollars, but here you can get them for under 1000! Plus most people from america don't like Japan computers because we do not have the normal keyboard (QWERTY i think you call it) instead we have a keyboard that is set up for Hiragana and only has English as a secondary function. the power cord is the same here as in Japan!
Answer 5 :
NO! DON'T BUY A COMPUTER IN JAPAN!!! I came in exchange here without computer, because here the prices are cheaper compared to my country and guess what? All the laps systems come in Japanese, so If you are good in language maybe it wont bother you having your all your windows system in kanjis (all). Just think what goes if the computer is bad? how you are going to use your guarantee back in home?. Don't buy a headache and buy something back at your home (like I should have done)
