would installing a game to my laptops hard drive give it longer battery life over one running from cd?
going to Japan and I know my laptop battery wont last the trip but which will allow the battery to last longer? running a game from the hard drive of the laptop or running a game from a cd in the cd drive of the laptop? does the same apply to movies? would shutting off the wifi capabilities of the laptop while in flight extend battery life? i know for my phone it says that turning off wifi can extend battery life. i know screen brightness and temperature has to do with battery life.

Answer 1 :
All things contribute to longer battery life (mostly brightness and processing power ussage). So the less processes you have the less batery power you should use. Not sure about the cd but you can give it a shot though i doubt that it would give you a lot more battery power (maybe a couple of minutes)
Answer 2 :
Yes running from hardrive will consume less power than from cd. yes same applies to movies, yes turning off wifi will extend battery life. How much it will extend your battery life may only be maginal but there will be power savings.
Answer 3 :
running a game from the hard drive of the laptop!same to the movies!
Answer 4 :
I really will not matter much, except that your hard drive is faster at running data than a CD. Either ways the information has to go to RAM and be stored on the Hard Drive, so I do not see any significant reason why playing a game or running any sort of heavy process would consume less memory on a CD than a Hard Drive. It is possible to argue that since the Hard Drive runs faster than a CD, you will get more out of your battery life through it than with a CD, but other than that I really am not sure of what difference there could really be. I could be wrong, but I hope this helps
