Answer 1 :
Cost of living is higher in Japan compared to most other areas of the world, but the Japanese do offer more cameras with better capabilities at much lower prices than anywhere else in the world (except maybe China who sells at lower prices - for now). Be aware of one thing. The common camera in Japan is set to NTSC like the US. If you need camera to connect directly to European TVs, be sure the camera you buy to bring back to Europe is set to PAL or can record or output in PAL. Regardless of the PAL or NTSC setting of the camera, you will always be able to connect to any computer for digital editing. In other words, If you see a camera in Japan that you really want but is only in NTSC and you don't ever plan to connect directly to a TV, Buy It! You can always convert the video to PAL in your computer during editing.
Answer 2 :
be prepared to pay an import fee/ tariff when you return...England imposes taxes on all electronics
