Shipping Laptop from US to Japan

Shipping Laptop from US to Japan?
Hi, I'm currently studying in Japan right now, and my laptop broke. I want to ask if my parent send me a new laptop from the US (Chicago) to Tokyo Japan about how much will it cost? Should my parents take the laptop out from its original box and put into the boxes at US post office? Or they should just mail the whole box (Original packing). Thank you!

Honestly, I would have them keep it in the box for a few reasons. 1) Better security. If the laptop gets pushed around or dropped, or something like that (which it will) going on its long journey, it's more secure in the original box. 2) It might cost just a little extra, but it would be worth it. As for the exact price, I would not be able to tell you because it is usually based on weight and size, neither of which you told in your description. 3) ITS MORE FUN!! Its like Christmas in July.... well, November anyway. Would you rather get your brand new laptop, in it's brand new shiny box, and be the first one to open it up and peel all the protective stuff off? Doesn't that just feel awesome! Or, would you rather pull it out of a brown piece of extra thick paper and maybe go... yay... it here? If I were you, I would keep it in the original packaging. HOPE THIS HELPS!

Answer 3 :
Original boxes for laptops are fairly strong. Usually when laptops are shipped to retails they are stacked. Postal boxes are fairly weak. Also get yourself some insurance, laptops are fairly expensive and sending them non-registered and non-insured is just asking for trouble
